The Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs is dedicated to supporting the mission of the College and academic success of our students. Student engagement is another of those buzz phrases popular in higher education. As with many regularly used terms, everyone assumes we are talking about the same thing; but when asked for definitions, either we are hard pressed to come up one or what’s offered is a decidedly different collection of definitions. The working paper, “Faculty Engagement to Enhance Student Attainment” has been commissioned to address the key role of faculty in realizing the national goal of increased college completion. The paper opens by setting the stage, identifying changes and challenges in higher education that impact broader faculty engagement, one of which The Faculty-Student Engagement Fund reimburses faculty members who host undergraduate students outside the classroom. All members of the undergraduate faculties may be reimbursed up to $125 per class or $8 per student, whichever is less. Lower division advisers may also use this program to treat their advisees once per semester.
